Located in the historic centre of Errenteria, in a building of the seventeenth century, Jantziaren Zentroa will allow you to travel and know the evolution of clothing, and at the same time discover the history of fashion and the style of dressing in Euskal Herria and in Europe.
Permanent exhibition
From the Rococo style of Queen Marie Antoinette to the Empire: a new exhibition by Jantziaren Zentroa.
The exhibition brings together on the first and second floors of Kapitain etxea the largest number of garments displayed to date, featuring 39 outfits from between 1740 and 1950.
On the first floor, visitors can see the exhibition "From Rococo to Empire: Fashion and Power in Transition," which explains the shift that the French Revolution brought about in clothing. The exhibition displays the oldest collection of garments owned by Jantziaren Zentroa, consisting of 18 original outfits from between 1740 and 1810.
We can see the clothing from the end of the Ancien Régime—meaning the Rococo style worn by Queen Marie Antoinette of France—and right next to it, outfits from the era of Napoleon Bonaparte's Empire. During that period, the female silhouette changed radically, shifting from silk fabrics embroidered with floral motifs to muslin. However, both eras share a common thread: color, as the fashionable tones were pastels. Because of this, light pink was chosen for the exhibition posters. In the room, the garments also provide an extraordinary luminosity.
In the main room of the second floor, 16 outfits from between 1815 and 1915 are on display. Clothing from France, the United Kingdom, the United States... garments of different origins that show us the rapid change that fashion experienced during that century. As a curiosity, we can see a duster coat and hat for traveling by car from the early 20th century.
In the center of the room, inside a glass display case, the interior of a dress by Charles Frederick Worth is shown. He was the English designer considered the father of haute couture. Visitors can appreciate how the dress is structured, the cut, the boning, and the label featuring Worth's signature.
The new exhibition by Jantziaren Zentroa concludes in the small room on the second floor. We see five dresses from the years 1920–1950. One of them is a dress by the haute couture designer Pedro Rodríguez.
At the entrance you can see for free temporary exhibitions of artisans related to the textile world.
