Jantziaren Zentroa immerses itself inGAUA
The exhibition “A movie wardrobe: GAUA, by Nerea Torrijos” kicks off the year at Jantziaren Zentroa on Saturday, January 10.
Upon entering Kapitain-etxea, we will be immersed in the film GAUA (2025) by director Paul Urkijo. The left side of the exhibition takes us to the beginning of the story. It is the moment when Kattalin, the protagonist, runs away from home and enters the forest at night, where she will meet three women.

On the other wall of the room, costumes from the upper class of the 17th century, the period in which the story of GAUA takes place, are on display. These are costumes worn by nobles and a priest, which we can compare with those worn by the common people.
The exhibition aims to introduce visitors to film costume designer Nerea Torrijos and her work. Next to each costume on display, we can see the dossier presented to the film’s director during pre-production, i.e., the costume proposed by Nerea Torrijos for each character, the fabric, the color, and the historical documentation.
Nerea Torrijos (Bilbao, 1985) has been working in the film industry for over a decade. In 2015, she began collaborating with director Paul Urkijo and has designed the costumes for all his films: Errementari (2017), Irati (2023), and Gaua (2025).
In terms of awards for her work, Nerea Torrijos has won a Goya Award for Best Costume Design for the film Akelarre (2021) and has received two Goya nominations for Irati (2023) and 20,000 Species of Bees (2024).
Among her latest works, Karmele (2025) by Asier Altuna and the video for Korrika 2026 stand out.
This is the first exhibition by Jantziaren Zentroa in collaboration with the world of cinema. Nerea Torrijos herself is the curator of the exhibition, art director Izaskun Urkijo has designed the forest setting, production companies Irusoin and Ikusgarri have authorized the use of images, the trailer, and the film’s soundtrack, and Peris Costumes in Madrid has provided the costumes for the exhibition.
In the exhibition, we can see all the details of the costumes that appear in GAUA. Costumes that we see in the dark and in just a few seconds. We can also learn about the work of all those tailors, dressmakers, designers, makeup artists, hairdressers, and stylists who work behind the scenes to give a film its historical setting.
The exhibition “A movie wardrobe: GAUA, by Nerea Torrijos” can be visited free of charge from Saturday, January 10, until March 22, on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
