Exhibition: Moda & Design

Major historical changes have always had a direct impact on society, and this has been reflected in areas such as fashion, furniture, architecture and sculpture. The exhibition that Jantziaren Zentroa is opening on 6 June on the ground floor of Kapitain-etxea takes us through the Industrial Revolution, the First and Second World Wars, and the rise of consumerism following the post-war period.
‘MODA & DESIGN’ shows the evolution of fashion and design between 1900 and 1980. Eight outfits, all replicas of the clothing from each decade of the 20th century, summarise the changes in fashion. Behind each dress is a three-metre-long canvas featuring a text summarising the design of that decade, a photograph of a piece of furniture from that era, and the fashionable colours.
From Art Nouveau, with its sinuous lines and curves inspired by nature, to the geometry of Art Deco, reflecting the luxury and modernity of the 1920s, right through to the mid-century focus on simplicity, utility and industrial production.
The exhibition, which recounts the changes brought about by the 20th century in fashion and design, can be viewed free of charge until 27 September. An exhibition for adults.
